The Hidden Traps of Life

As my wife and I were hiking the trail system that circumferenced the beautiful property of James Madison's Montpelier this morning, we were under the constant threat of the spider webs that are spun across the trail. Always at eye level and invisible to the naked eye, these annoying things really tried to hinder us as we kept going.

So I picked up a long stick from the underbrush and used that to knock them down as my wife followed behind. But all said, it was a rather pleasant hike with a stop at the horse pasture as well. Sometimes in our lives we are on different trails of life and circumstances, and we run into the spider webs of our daily lives and they try to take us down, preventing us from moving forward.

But we must remember what Theodore Roosevelt said: "Speak softly and carry a big stick"

While that is very good advice, we must realize that we must speak (Pray) and carry the big stick (Bible), when we run into the traps of life. The rest of the day together went very well.

Think of all the times we have had traps set for us, or difficult obstacles set in our paths, and how we felt hopeless and too weak to keep going. But God has set us free, or given us the road map to get out of the situation.

As many times as the Devil tried to tempt Jesus Christ, all Jesus said was "In The Name of Jesus Christ, Get Thee Behind Me Satan".

Psalms 141:9: "Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity."
